Ten years after the Fukushima Daiichi disaster ~ Fighting for the right to avoid radiation exposure ~

On March 1st, 2021, there was an incredibly unfair ruling that could have a major impact on those of us living in Japan in the future.

The ruling was handed down by the Fukushima District Court as the judicial decision on the Children's De-exposure Trial.

It is the trial to not only protect children from radiation exposure, but also to secure the "right to avoid radiation exposure" in Japan.

About the decision of the court, I would like to quote the words of Ms. Kiyoko Mito, co-chair of the Association of Children's De-exposure Trial, who has been supporting the plaintiffs:

The judge rejected the request to "confirm the right of children to be educated in a safe place" and dismissed the request to "not conduct school education under radiation doses equivalent to those in radiation controlled areas."

The basis for the dismissal was the ICRP standards, which is just a private research institute funded by donations from nuclear companies.

The court ruled that there is no problem up to 20 mSv/year and that internal exposure is not a problem.

How can a court case that does not rely on the law be called a court case? *

I completely agree.

How can a judge make a decision based on the recommendation of a private organization, the ICRP (International Commission on Radiological Protection)?

The upper limit of the annual exposure dose of the general public is 1 millisievert. Why can a judge rely on the recommendations of the ICRP more than on the Japanese law?

Does this mean that the judges place more importance on the interests of the nuclear industry than on protecting the health and property of the people in Japan?

What kind of organization is the ICRP?

The below is from a book written by the late Prof. Yasuo Nakagawa of Kobe University, who risked his life to prosecute the ICRP:

The ICRP is definitely not an organization of international scientific authority. The ICRP is an international commission that imposes radiation exposure on the people, while bringing economic and political benefits to the nuclear industry and the ruling class. **

It has been almost 10 years since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. Although the case makes it seem like Japan exists for the benefit of the nuclear industry and the ruling class, the plaintiffs are now working on the appeal.

I would continue to fight with them to ensure that Japanese laws are properly enforced and that the perpetrators will be held accountable.
