Tanka Poems written 20 years ago: February

Twenty years ago in February, what did you do?

I was watching the meeting of  the UN Security Council on TV.

"Iraq has weapons of mass destruction." That was what the United States insisted.

The US tried to justify the war on Iraq by showing ambiguous photos and information,

whereas France gave a dissuasive talk at the meeting and many people around the world were hailing "No WAR!"

True? or just a hoax?

In floods of information

Flushed by the media

A dog is chasing his tail

Going round and round and round

ほんとう?でたらめ?

メディアの流す情報に

犬もぐるぐるしっぽを追うよ

My late dog was just one year old then

Gather voices of

"No War" all over the world

Tie them to balloons

Fly the balloons in the sky

Let them wrap up the White House

反戦の声風船に結びつけ

ホワイトハウスを覆ってしまえ

The poem above was also written in February, 2003.

I wonder the US can do something more for peace than giving weapons to Ukraine.

Or I may say they should have made proper diplomatic efforts not to let this war in Ukraine or Iraq war occur.

I really feel this 20-year-old poem below still expresses my confusion toward the world leaders.

You'll see in the sky

A rainbow in black and white,

Wearing sunglasses

Through which you can only see

Things either good or evil

七色の虹も二色か単純に

聖邪を分けるメガネかければ
